The final cross country races of the year were held on Sunday last in Wexford hosted by Menapians AC. With heavy rain and high winds, this exposed field made running conditions very tough underfoot and challenging for all runners.
With the Intermediate XC races postponed due to back weather before Christmas, it was decided to run both races concurrently with the Mens Intermediate race distance dropping back to 6K.
The Ladies Masters and Intermediate Races were first off with Katey Gregan first Slaney Lady home and together with Marie Kinsella, Sarah Walsh & Maura Neville helped secure Team Intermediate Bronze. In the Masters Race Slaney were successful in securing two individual Gold Medals for Annis Kehoe o/60 and Jane Porter o/65. Also taking part today was Gosia Szymura who took ran a solid race throughout.
In the Mens Masters & Intermediate Race, Slaney Olymic’s Enda Cloake raced across the line to finish in first place in the Intermediate race and together with David Kehoe, Brian Maher & Billy Reck won Team Gold for Slaney. In the Masters Race Jim Stafford was first home man home for Slaney and together with David Kehoe, Brian Maher and Billy Reck won Team Bronze for the Club. Jim Stafford also won o/55 and David Kehoe won 0/50 medals.
Also running for the club in both races and running strong races were John Foley, Fergus Murphy, Ian Rochford, Eamon Saunders, Ger Murphy & Fintan Kinsella.
Many thanks to all the supporters and friends who travelled down on a miserable day to offer their support to the runners.
