The Mr Oil Intermediate Road Race took part today in Carcur, Wexford on Sunday 19th April and hosted by Menapians AC.
The Ladies 4k race was held first, starting at the entrance to the Old Hospital, heading towards Ferrycarrig and then turning left on to the Old Carrig Road. An impressive 12 ladies lined up for Slaney Olympic and Emily O Connor led the way home in a time of 15.49, earning herself individual Gold. Emily has now won back to back Novice and Intermediate Road Races. The Slaney women also won Team Silver, scoring for the club were Emily O’Connor (1st), Siobhan O’Shea (8th), Martina O’Sullivan (11th) and Kelly Long (12th).
The Mens 8k race commenced shortly after and was ran over a hilly and challenging course. Slaney Olympic latest signing Ger Forde, who runs unattached for April, lead the race from the start and won in an impressive time of 26.46. Slaney Olympic men won both Team Silver and Team Bronze and scoring on the Silver Team was Brian Maher (4th), John Foley (6th), Jessie O’Connor (9th) and Fergus Murphy (11th). The Bronze Team members were David Kehoe (13th), Conor Hyland (16th), Pat Hyland (18th) and Brian Murphy (23rd) with a total score of 60 points.
Special word of thanks to Kevin Murphy for all his help with our training programmes and for his words of encouragement. Out of a potential 30 medals today, Slaney Olympic took home 14 medals!!
The Slaney Olympic team spirit and camaraderie amongst runners and supporters who travelled down today was just fantastic and great to be part of. In the words of someone recently, were not a good club, we’re a Great Club, Go Slaney Go!!!
