Last Wednesday saw the last race in the January handicap where finishing position was paramount in determining final league standings.
Jason set us all off according to our handicap with the slower runners heading off first. By the time we crossed the new bridge and turned on to the prom the chase was well and truely on. Your scribe who had already been passed by Mag and Graham could see the back runners still at the other side of the river. Surely she could get to the finish ahead of them. Soon Shauna and Helena swept by. By the time I reached the last section down to the footbridge a stampede of speedy runners left me in their wake. Alas my chance of a good overall score vanished as I was one of the last finishers.
The start times were spread out over 4 minutes but everyone crossed the finish line within 39 seconds! The results of Race 5 are below. Under that are the final league standings. These were calculated based on runners best 3 finish positions. Race one was really a time trial to establish handicaps so finish positions here don’t count. Likewise, for anyone who missed race one, their first race position does not count either as they started out at 0.00. To complete the league you need to have completed at least 4 races. If you did all five races your best three finishing positions were added to give the total.
It is planned to have an end of league party and prize giving in conjunction with the post 10K party on 15th February in The Bailey. There will be a prize for the first three in the league plus a couple of “surprise” awards.
