The second race in the January League took place on Wednesday, 9th with even bigger numbers turning out than on the previous Wednesday. Four runners from last week did not make it this time but with thirteen new people there was a total of 45 in the race.
Everyone from last week was sent out in reverse order to they way they finished on week one. Gretta started off at 0.00 with Wally 3 seconds behind her as he was 3 seconds faster than her last week. Next was Annis at 1.05, Stephanie at 1.07, Jane at 1.09 etc according to their finish times last Wednesday. Anyone who did not run last week was started at 0.00 but will be given a handicap next week based on their finish time this week.
All of this unhandicapped group crossed the finishline ahead of the handicapped runners. The handicap race was won by Graham Porter who passed out Gretta, Wally, Annis, Stephanie and Jane and was not passed out by anyone who started behind him. Life at the finish line was hectic for Lar, Bridget and Joewith most of the field finishing within 15 seconds of each other!
Unfortunately there was a clock malfunction at the finish so there are no official finish times. Below is a list of the finishers in the order in which they finished. Where there are times, these were the times recorded on the athletes own watches. As it was a handicap it is the finish order that counts rather than the actual times so the results will stand.
The same handicaps will be used in next week’s race with the newcomers being slotted in according to how they ran this week.
