Helena 1st Summer league

The last of the summer evening races took place last Friday with Kevin Murphy organising a fun 4 x 1Mile relay on the Old Dublin Road. This was followed by a barbeque and summer league prize giving.

For the race teams were made up of a mix of faster and slower runners which led to some interesting battles as positions were swapped during the course of the race.  The winners were Team 2 composed of Fergal McCauley, Paul Browne, Mag Dunphy and Martin Monaghan. Team 6 (John Roban, Mick Morrissey, Alison Storey and John Foley) finished second with Team 5 (Brian Keane, Mick Jordan, Kelly Long and Billy Reck) in third position.

After the race the club adjourned to Treacy’s Hotel for a barbeque and prizegiving for the Summer League Handicap.  Jane  presented trophies to the winners. In the women’s category the honours went to Helena Browne with Emer Kehoe taking second in her first year running with the club. Sabina Sweeney who is busy training for the Dublin marathon was the worthy winner of the most improved award. Bobby Redmond was the popular winner of the men’s category with another new comer to the club, James Delaney taking second place. John Foley was awarded the most improved trophy.
