There was a great turnout of 48 runners for the first race of the 2012 Summer League. The rain in the late afternoon threathened to spoil the show but by registration time the skies had cleared leaving a cool evening and a damp road for the race.James Cloney of St Killians took the honours on the night with a strong contingent of Slaney Olympians not far behind. Kevin Murphy finished second with Farmer in third place. It was a Slaney Olympic one, two, three in the ladies race with Mairead Kehoe running well to finish first. Second was Martina O’Sullivan with Mag Dunphy in third position.
Times were fast throughout the field. The first three were under 5 minutes with a further 17 coming in under 6 minutes and another 12 under 7 minutes. Well done to all.
Rumour has it that Jason was the race director. No wonder he ran so fast (4th in 5.03) so he could help out at the finish! Well done to assistants Paul, Ger, Alice, Mick and Siobhan for doing an excellent job at the start and finish. Great too to see so many war wounded out spectating and encouraging the runners.
