Slaney Olympic was out in force today at the County Senior Cross Country races hosted by DMP on the Wexford Racecourse. The conditions underfoot after the recent spell of rain was wet, muddy and challenging and there was even a few ditches and drains to be negotiated aswell, proper Cross Country running!
The women’s 5km race was first off at 12.00 with 18 women crossing the starting line with 2.5 laps to be completed. Jackie Carthy led from gun to finish in a time of 21.23, followed by Slaney Olympic’s Emily O Connor in 23.09 and Catherine Murphy in 23.34. Slaney Olympic Ladies won individual silver and bronze medals and Team Gold and Team Silver. All the ladies racing today won a county medal, so it pays to show up and race for your club.
Immediately after the womens race, the mens 10K race started with a field of 49 men, 17 of whom were representing Slaney Olympic.
