After a week of almost relentless rain the sun came out for the Slaney Olympic Race and Barbeque in Curracloe. The ever older and faster Kevin Murphy claimed victory over the new 4.77 mile course through The Raven in perfect conditions. Paul Gibbons was second with Jim Stafford finishing in third position. Martina O’Sullivan won the ladies race. Tracy Flanagan was second followed by Lillian Lawless in third.

When all the big people had finished and had their fill of burgers and sausages the children had their turn over the sand dunes. The under eights ran the short course followed by the speedy over eights who had to tackle the tricky sandy descent of a steep dune before dashing to the finish.

The evening ended with prize giving and a raffle for all who participated and helped at the event. A big thank you to all who brought salads and cakes etc but especially to our two chefs on the night, Bridget and Alice. Thanks also to Ger, Maurice and Mag who helped get everything set up and to everyone who helped with the clear up afterwards.
