
The last race in the Slaney Olympic Summer Series took place on the Old Dublin Road on Friday 17th September at 7.00 pm. This was a straight 1 mile sprint on a flat course open to all grades of runners. Some very fast times were achieved. Kevin Murphy took the honours in the superb time of 4.28 followed by Martin (Farmer) Monaghan in 4.53. Only one second separated 3rd & 4th Mick Jordan and Bobby Redmond in 5.01 and 5.02. Wayne Breen who was the most improved male runner of the series was next in 5.13.
First lady was Martina Conran in 6.13 followed by Joan Doyle 6.26, Mag Dunphy 6.48 & Moira Roberts in 7.32.
Afterwards Prizegiving took place in Shenanigans where the Handicap awards were presented for the whole of the Summer Series. To qualify 5 races out of 8 had to be completed including one 5 miler, one 4 miler and three others. Results are as follows:
